About

Natives empowering Natives

Codetalkers creates tech programs, courses, and apps that help tribal communities build digital skills, share ideas, and code a future they own.

The name

Spoken in code. Written in code.

During both World Wars, soldiers from more than thirty tribes used their own languages to carry messages no enemy could break. The languages that governments and boarding schools had tried to erase turned out to be the one code that held.

Our name is a play on that history and on something newer: Native people who want to write code. We are not claiming the code talkers’ story as our own. We are honoring the idea behind it. A language is a strength, and the people who carry it should be the ones who decide how it is used.

That idea runs through everything we build, from a grants platform for tribal offices to a language toolkit that keeps sacred words out of reach of any AI.

How we work

Three things we hold to.

  • Coding

As Natives who love to code, we create and share programs that give students and professionals a real way into the IT industry.

  • Native

Every tribal community is different. We listen, learn, and experiment to build programs, courses, and apps that fit the people who will use them.

  • Reciprocate

Whether it is a new programming language or a first look at AI and robotics, giving back is how communities build self-determination.
